BBC – Two Greedy Italians in Liguria

Who would have thought that one day I would meet the two great chefs of “Two Greedy Italians”, Antonio Carluccio and Gennaro Contaldo? And who would have even considered that I’ve been collaborating with the whole crew at the new television series “Two Greedy Italians”? But, this is what has happened to me last summer.

Initially I thought it was a joke when I received a call from the english director series of the programme, who asked me if I was available to collaborate with them and help to prepare the series “Two Greedy Italians” shot in Liguria, in my region.

I was excited at the idea and, of course I accepted to be part of the project.  I am a fan of Antonio Carluccio and Gennaro Contaldo and watched the last series.  How could I refuse it?

In few days I was involved in the production. Soon I met the two great presenters  Antonio and Gennaro and worked with them and the all wonderful  troupe to the new series. As you can understand I can not reveal any particular of the series shot in Liguria, but I just can say that the theme of this episode is the Italian concept of “bella figura” in the gastronomy field.

The two great chefs Antonio and Gennaro, return to the Italy they left more than 40 years ago, to discover what has changed in Italian culture and how that has affected the way Italians eat. In the series shot in Liguria they want to let English people understand what the Italian philosophy of la “Bella figura” means for Italian people. For this reason, we met many great ligurian people which had the opportunity to explain what the concept of “bella figura” meant for them.

The BBC2 will broadcast the series in 2012. So, stay tuned!

Meanwhile let’s discuss about the “bella figura” concept (the Italian “beautiful figure”). What does this concept mean for you?

I always thought of it as a sarcastic comment, like you sure made a fool out of yourself now. But then when I think about it, you would buy a certain kind of gift for a bella figura – which means a good impression.
