Vernazza, 9 Months After the Flood

July 31, 2012 by Anna Merulla / Tags: , , , , , , , / 0 Comments

Walking through Vernazza, 9 months after the day of its flood, for me was touching.

The videos of the torrential rain and the massive flooding happened on October 2011 which killed three residents, damaging the town and terrorizing people are alive in my mind.

But, yesterday walking through the village alleys I had a sense of absolute respect for the strenght of the residents and of all the volunteers that have worked hard every day to return back Vernazza into the beauty that made it beloved worldwide.

In few months enormous amount of mud have been carried away (4 meters / 13+ feet of mud and debris) and shops, restaurants, cafes have reopened.

There are still some parts of the road that has still some scars, but the situation is under control.

Today we can say that Vernazza has returned to its former glory and magic atmosphere!

Fish Festival in Camogli

Fish Festival

In a small square of the charming village of Camogli you will discover the world's largest frying pan. The pan comes out annually on the second Sunday of May and is used to fry up loads of free fish handed out to villagers and tourists for the annual Fish Festival (Sagra del Pesce) dedicated to St Fortunato, patron saint of fishermen.A must!
